Delaware Skills Center offers an 18-week (630-hour) welding training course. This course is designed to prepare students with the necessary skills to secure a job as an entry-level welder.

Students will pass hands-on arc welding tests in the vertical, overhead and flat positions in several processes.


2) Polytech

Polytech offers two different welding programs: basic welding and welding/metal fabrication. Basic welding is for the beginning welder. Students in this program will learn the fundamentals of electric arc welding, oxyacetylene cutting and welding.

Hands-on practice is required in this course. The Welding/Metal Fabrication VI course is one of the eight training courses that is required to complete the 4-year apprenticeship program. This course covers GTAW, also known as tungsten inert gas welding.

The Adult Education Division (AED) offers a huge variety of educational programs; part-time and evening courses are available to best accommodate students’ schedules.

Delaware Technical Community College includes the Innovation and Technology Center (ITC). Their website says this center is your “partner in success, delivering customized training at its new, state-of-the-art facility”.

The school combines classroom learning with a hands-on learning approach and is poised to meet the demands of labor markets. It is also the only facility of its kind in the region.

ITC’s welding certificates are approved by the Delaware Workforce Investment Board (DWIB). Their welding program is 262 clock hours and has 10-station labs available for student use.

Students can complete the entire welding certificate and be job-ready in four months.
