Stained glass is a beautiful medium to work with that has a rich history throughout the world. Learning the craft takes hours of work, but is one of the more rewarding mediums to use.
Making and watching a stained glass panel, suncatcher, or window blossom into a colorful work of art is a fulfilling way to pass the time.
Maryland has several great art centers and studios that are excellent places to begin your stained glass journey.
Experienced instructors at each studio are there to help and guide you as you learn to cut glass, grind, solder and finish your stained glass pattern.

MD Glass Creations offers stained glass classes for all levels! They offer a boot camp that teaches students all of the basics of stained glass. Students start with making a suncatcher and 8×10 panel.
The boot camp is an all-day event and students will learn cutting, fitting, grinding, foiling and soldering. This is a great place to start when trying to learn the art of stained glass!

Weisser Glass Studio’s goal is to offer excellent instruction in a friendly and helpful environment. They have adjusted their classes and classrooms to fit a safer environment during COVID times.
They offer two courses for students interested in stained glass: four 3-hour classes or four 2.5-hour classes! In the 3-hour class, students will learn how to construct a stained glass panel in the copper foil style.
There is a variety of patterns available for students to choose from and tools will be supplied during class. For students who would like to do work at home, tools and equipment are available for purchase at a discounted rate.
The 2.5-hour class teaches similar steps, but previous stained glass experience is required.

Anything in Stained Glass is a family-owned and operated studio that was established in 1979! This studio offers an introduction to stained glass boot camp that is perfect for all experience levels.
The boot camp walks students through creating a small 8×8 stained glass panel. The glass project pattern isn’t important for this course, as the instructor will give a pattern that will be used in different scenarios.

The Artists’ Corner has been in business for over 45 years. They teach a beginner-style class where students will learn the basics of cutting, grinding, fitting, foiling and soldering. The class is a 2 to 2.5-hour class to make sure students get off on the right foot.
The class is geared to those who want to learn a new craft and is taught in the copper foil method. The course runs for four weeks and builds a foundation that students can build upon by taking on larger and more challenging projects.
Working on the project at home is also required to finish the project on time. Materials are provided for the first night of class, but after that students will be expected to bring their own supplies.

VisArts Glass is a nonprofit organization that is founded on the mission to “transform individuals and communities through the visual arts.” The organization was founded in 1987 and has grown into a large community-based arts center.
VisArts classes are for all ages and experience levels; the classes are kept small so that students receive the instruction they need. In their stained glass class, students learn how to construct a 6×8 or a 7×7 hanging panel using the copper foil method.
