1) Fort Delaware State Park

Fort Delaware State Park opened in 1951 and celebrated 70 years of operation in 2021. Fort Delaware was built in 1859 and is the main attraction of the park. The Fort served as a Union prison camp during the Civil War.
Today, Fort Delaware State Park includes the Fort, hiking trails, and living history events. Blacksmithing workshops are offered throughout the year and teach historical blacksmithing methods that would have been used at the Fort in the 1800s.
Workshops are appropriate for children and adults and are best suited for complete beginners. This is a great activity to do as a family while visiting the park! Sessions are short and very affordable at only $10 per person.

Chesapeake Forge Blacksmith Guild is an organization for blacksmiths in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Guild memberships are affordable and include monthly meetings, demonstrations, and classes.
To join the Chesapeake Forge Blacksmith Guild, prospective members are encouraged to take an introductory blacksmithing class. This class teaches students to make a fireplace poker. A year’s membership is included in the cost of the class.
The Guild also offers forge safety classes seasonally.
