Alabama’s history of stained glass lives on in churches across the state. Learn to create your own stained glass at one of Alabama’s many studios.

Stained glass is an established art form all over the world, reaching from Africa to Europe to America, and the state of Alabama happens to be the birthplace of talented artist and designer Clara Weaver Parrish.

Mrs. Parrish was a painter and stained glass artist who became one of the few women to freelance for the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company – a company owned by renowned stained glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Stained glass windows designed by Parrish are still visible in four of Alabama’s churches: St. Paul’s Episcopal in Selma; the First Baptist Church, Selma; the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Uniontown; and Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa.

Parrish, in 1983, was posthumously inducted into Alabama’s Women’s Hall of Fame.

Alabama has kept Parrish’s art-of-choice alive and well. There are stained glass studios throughout the state, as well as multiple facilities that offer stained glass classes.

If you live in Alabama and want to be the next Clara Weaver Parrish, rest assured – we have you covered. Check out the studios and facilities below to see how you can begin designing your own stained glass project!
