1) The Collaboratory

 The Collaboratory is owned and operated by Ceri Jones and is a place for creative exploration in non-typical forms of art. Established in 2010, this studio offers 60 or 90-minute classes to learn the basics of welding as an art!

Weld Like A Girl is an empowerment project for girls and women. The owner wanted to provide a safe space to explore welding with the understanding that it is a foreign world to most women.

The classes are designed to boost self-esteem and whole-person wellness; most classes are still co-ed, and “Gentlemen (not jerks) may attend most classes,” according to their website.

The classes teach welding and hot metal cutting in a small group setting, no more than 8-12 people. This allows students to receive individual instruction. This is a great place for women (and gentlemen) to learn about welding without going to a vo-tech school!

 GateWay Community College offers an Applied Technology Field of Interest program for students. These programs include HVAC, automotive, and welding to name a few. They focus on hands-on skill-building to help students design, develop, or repair high-tech equipment and processes.

The classes are scheduled to accommodate full-time and part-time students and they also align with industry standards.

GateWay offers three certificates in welding: fundamentals, gas tungsten arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding. Do keep in mind that students pay tuition and fees according to their residency classification. You can find your classification on GateWay’s website.
