Northern Industrial Training is Alaska’s number one resource for vocational training and corporate training support services. The school offers grant opportunities, and special programs, and has a training team at the student’s disposal.
NIT looks to help students excel and succeed through training that exceeds industry standards. NIT’s welding programs provide the training necessary to qualify, certify, and succeed in the industry.

Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) has an industrial welding program that emphasizes steel welding. Students are expected to learn procedures for welding on nonferrous materials, too.
The primary focus of the program is stick electrode welding. An introduction to non-destructive testing is also an integral part of their program so students get the big picture of the industry.
AVTEC’s welding shops have state-of-the-art cutting and welding equipment as well as computerized plasma cutting machines.
There are two steps students need to take to earn the AVTEC Industrial Welding Program certificate: Structural Certification to AWS Unlimited Thickness and Pipe Certification to ASME section IX, 6G Pipe.

The program was designed to help prepare students to succeed in the industry and to pass the American Welding Society test that is used as an industry standard.
