Louisiana reformed their higher education system starting in the late 1990s. In 1999, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) was established.
The LCTCS was given governance over the many new schools being constructed across the state. The aims of this organization of schools included diversifying the student body statewide, and preparing young Louisiana residents for in-demand careers that would support the state’s economy.
Most of the schools listed here were founded around the time of the LCTCS’s conception. They are accredited learning institutions with well-rounded welding programs.

Advanced Welding School, or AWS is one of the newest welding schools in Louisiana. It opened in 2017 and is owned and operated by Richard Hope. He has over 40 years of experience in the welding industry.
AWS’s welding program is unique because it is almost entirely hands-on. Students learn SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW with the help of experienced instructors.
Classes at AWS run for 8 weeks. The school has an open enrollment structure, meaning students can start at any time. Delgado Community College is one of the oldest and most well-established community colleges in the state of Louisiana. The school opened in 1921 and has grown to be the largest higher education institution in the city of New Orleans.

Baton Rouge Community College or BRCC opened in 1998 during Louisiana’s push for the establishment of community colleges. The school offers a comprehensive welding program.
Students learn FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, blueprint reading, welding symbols, and joints.
After completing BRCC’s curriculum, welding students take the American Welding Society’s Entry Level Welder Test as part of the employment process.

The only degree option currently available at Louisiana Delta Community College is a Technical Degree.
