List of Stained Glass Classes in Rhode Island

The legacy of Rhode Island resident and stained glass artist John La Farge lives on in the many classes offered across the state.

Stained glass has a long history – dating back to what historians think is the 4th century. The craft existed in ancient Rome where colored glass was used to design exquisite windows. It became incredibly popular in Europe in the 1100s and you can see the original art in the many grand cathedrals to this day.

As the art form grew, universities and colleges began offering classes for stained glass. The interest in the subject kept growing and stained glass is now a popular hobby for those who have an interest in the fine arts.

Rhode Island is home to a significant figure in stained glass history: John La Farge. La Farge was a writer, painter, and stained glass artist. He studied, lived, and worked in Rhode Island for many years. He is known for his works The Sealing of the Twelve Tribes, Angel of Help, and many others.

Thankfully, Rhode Island has kept the art alive and well since La Farge’s time. Stained glass classes are not hard to come by; locals and tourists have the opportunity to take classes with extremely talented artists. Whether you are a novice or you have been doing stained glass for years, the studios listed below are sure to ignite (or re-ignite!) your passion for the craft.
